St GEORGE’S CHURCH MUSEUM

St George Church Museum is located in Arada Kifle Ketema, Addis Ababa ,inside St. George’s Church compound. It was established in 1982 Eth Cal ‘ to preserve and promote Ethiopian Orthodox clergy /monarchs contribution towards the nation’s history and pass them over to the next generation’.

Empress Zawditu and Emperor Haile Selassie I were crowned in 1926 & 1930 respectively and their coronation robes and other related items are found in the museum.

The museum is run by St George Church and possesses various manuscripts including 126 brana ( parchment written)and paper documents , church /religious items including robes, crosses etc…woodcrafts, photographs, firearms and lion mane/ sword and various books in its collection , which were acquired through donations.

Collections are reasonably well kept and displayed in good showcases for easy view for visitors.

The museum is open to the public from 9:00: 12:00 morning and 2:00-5:00 pm in the afternoon every day. Special visiting programmes for foreign visitors and local visitors can be arranged. The museum charges entrance fee of 2 Birr for local and 20 Birr for foreign visitors.
